Build Your Own Skateboarding Ramps

Have you ever thought about building your own skateboarding ramps? If not, now might be the time to really think about it. With your very own skateboarding ramps you can learn all of you new tricks at home, and before your friends know it, you'll be better than they are. They will all wonder how you learned so many new tricks so fast and you can let them in you your secret: home made skateboarding ramps.

But isn't it hard to build your own ramps? Don't you need a lot of tools and experience?

Well, that depends on what type of ramp you want to build. If you want to build a halfpipe worthy of the X-Games, you won't be able to build it yourself in an afternoon. If, on the other hand you just want a simple launch ramp so you can get a little bit of air, all you really need is a piece of plywood and some bricks.

If you've never build a skateboarding ramp before and don't have any experience working with wood you should probably start out with a simple launch ramp. All you need to build a simple launch ramp is a piece of plywood and a few bricks. Just stack the bricks in a short pile (1-2 feet tall) and use this to prop up one end of the plywood. You might also need to put a few more bricks under the center of the wood to make sure it is strong enough in the middle. That's all there is to it!

Warning: Before you try you new ramp out on your skateboard try standing on it first. Make sure the ramp is strong enough before it breaks in the middle of your big trick.

If you a little more confident in your construction abilities and you have a few tools (saw, hammer, nails) then you can build a better launch ramp completely out of wood. Basically you just use some 2s4's instead of the bricks. Just cut some 2x4's to the right length and nail or screw them to the bottom of your piece of plywood. Make sure to use enough supports so that the ramp is strong.

That's all there is to it. Once you've built your own skateboarding launch ramp and learned a few new tricks, find some plans for a quarterpipe and build yourself an awesome new skateboarding ramp. Pretty soon you'll have a whole collection of skateboarding ramps.

Man... I wish I still had my mini ramp. My dad built me a 6 foot half pipe years ago when I was about 12 or 13... We had some good times building it and skating it.I should build another mini ramp this year.

Just be careful of the wood you buy. The stuff we used rotted and warped pretty quickly. Or instead of buying more expensive wood you could just cover your halfpipe when it rains like it does here in Ontario.
